A short exhortation that I wrote for our prayer meeting last June 20, 2012. So here it goes…

“Experiencing Breakthrough”
Bible Verses: Judges 2:1, Isaiah 42:3, Matthew 12:20, Numbers 30:2 and James 2:10

“WHAT IS “BREAKTHROUGH?”

Experiencing breakthrough is not an easy matter, especially if we will not ask for the governing power of our Lord Jesus Christ. Besides, only God is able to bring breakthrough into our lives. So, who else are we going to rely on?

Webster’s Dictionary says that “breakthrough” means “an act or point of breaking through an obstruction (obstruct, to block or close up by an obstacle). Breaking through is an act of removing a restriction. You break through if you overcome something in your life.

Everybody wants breakthrough in their lives, right? Everybody wants to be set free from all the troubles they are experiencing. Pain and suffering are simply not on the list. Breakthrough is what we pray for.

“WHO BRINGS BREAKTHROUGH?”

God says in Judges 2:1, “The angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said, ‘I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land I swore to give to your ancestors.'” Our God let the Israelites experience breakthrough by setting them free from slavery caused by the Egyptians. But then, it doesn’t end there. God is simply not done with them yet. God says, “I will never break my covenant with you.” It means that blessings are continuous. Heavens will be opened to them. They will be continually experiencing God’s overflowing blessings.

Before the Israelites experienced breakthrough from the Egyptians, they experienced pain, sufferings and all other struggles. What does it mean? Just as we are, most of the time, we only remember God and ask for breakthrough when we experience pain, trouble, struggles and suffering or when we are at the verge of giving up. We have the tendency to focus on ourselves rather than drawing near to God first. It is only because of the pain we know that there is the God who is only able to bring comfort to His people and to set them free.

“WHAT SHOULD WE DO TO EXPERIENCE BREAKTHROUGH?”

Let’s read Isaiah 42:3 and also Matthew 12:20. God says, “A bruised reed he will not break, a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness, he will forth justice.” One characteristic of God that we should always be thankful of is that He trusts us and always and expects much from us. He will bring justice. He will bring hope. He will bring peace. He has put faith in our heart that no matter what happens in our lives, we could still have the courage to trust Him knowing that He’ll rescue us. He will set us free.

The thing we should do is to realize our nothingness before God. Accept that we cannot do anything in this life unless we will call on to God for help. Let us before God with a humble heart, pray, ask the Holy Spirit to come down and encounter Him. Let us encounter the Truth. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to join you as you pray for breakthrough into your life. Have these three things in you heart: faith, love and hope (1 Corinthians 13:13). Sometimes, we just pray by mouth and by mind but with no heart. Useless! Faith is the key.

It reminds me of the song “Breakthrough by Don Moen.” Let us listen to it and pray along with it.

The verse part is the composer’s earnest prayer to God,

“Break through
Break through all my doubts
Break through
Break through all my fears
Break through
That I may worship You
Break through
Break through all my pain
Break through all my guilt and my shame
Break through like only You can do”

He is praying to God for breakthrough. He is earnestly praying. He is in need for God’s power. The chorus part is the composer’s declaration of God’s almighty power,

“You are brighter than my darkest night
Stronger than my toughest fight
Just one touch from You my King my Friend
And I’ll never be the same again”

Maybe, he is simply saying, “My God, this is my prayer. This is the cry of my heart. My declaration. You can do amazing things in my life. I claim it. I believe in You. You can turn my situation all around. To You I cling. I will never be the same again because of You.”

“ARE YOU READY TO EXPERIENCE BREAKTHROUGH?”

You know what, just believe and have a strong faith. Don’t give up and God will never give up on you. God is able to do some breakthrough in your life, in our lives.

We are all bruised reeds that Jesus refuses to give up on. The world thinks it knows what to do with you, break you off and snuff you out! But not Jesus. No matter how deeply bruised you are or put out you may feel today, you’re not beyond the reach of God’s grace. No matter what your situation is. No matter how difficult it is. No matter how hard it may become. It doesn’t matter. God is able to turn your life all around as long as you cling to Him. Come, He will treat you gently. He will make you whole again. You will experience breakthrough! God bless us all!

“Trapped”
(January 18, 2013)

I’m afraid of everything
Everything that is so true
So serene, so calm, secrets
Truest of me? It’s unreal!

Thoughts are floating in the air
Feelings are hidden deeply
Actions, they’re always controlled
Limited! Chained by motions.

You’re talking, words just fall down
Just as the air, you’re moving
You’re felt, yet nobody cares
Desperate sounds, no one hears.

Here we are, hear the unvoiced
Young people under pressure
Oh, listen! We are lighted
Yet darkness is upon us.

Darkness, gloom, chaos, free us
Our hearts, broken and shackled
Sep’rated from the real world
Lives with unclear purposes.

Pretension! Life’s a big stage
We laugh, we cry, we get mad
Battling everyone for fame
Competing for attention.

A life cycle of drama
It’s time, we need to end this
Compassion, rise up, be freed
Save the earth, rescue yourself.

Yes! We’re trapped to prepare us
For a fight, yet to unfold
We’re trapped by wrong emotions
Trapped by unsettled motives.

O, my friend! Be freed, be freed.

I’m still working on. I’m not yet so good on writing poems but I’m still working on it. You know, the old saying goes like, “Practice makes perfect.” I’m now interested on it. It’s something different. So, here is my second one. I hope it would sound a lot better and more dramatic than the first one. I love to hear your comments. Criticize it, please!

“Your Present Situation”

Hey! I have something to tell. There’s a letter from your friend and you need to know it.

I know almost all of the things about you and those things that surround you. I know those times when you were sad, mad, happy, hesitating, tired or anything. I know the time when you needed someone to talk with or to lean on. That’s why I am here with you. I can be that friend that you are looking for.

When you are with your family, what do you feel? Are you happy with them or not? Maybe you’re sad, really sad. Maybe you belong to a broken family, that’s why. Maybe the love you are getting from them is not sufficient. ” Palibhasa’y napakaraming mag-asawa ngayon ang naghihiwalay.” Many youths are growing in this society with a single parent only and that is a very difficult situation.

How about the way of discipline from your parents? Can that affect your emotions of attitudes? ” Masyado ba silang mahigpit o ‘di nama’y maluwag?” Are you experiencing emotional, physical, or mental abuse from them? Do you ever feel inferior? Do you feel that they treat you as their child or just like any other kids in town? Maybe they are just thinking that you need money and you’re okay, another difficult situation. ” May pera ka nga, but you’re still broken.” Too many questions, ha? These questions can help you think about your present condition in life. I want you to cry.

How about, hmm? Why don’t you check yourself? Is it okay that you are always alone? I know many teenagers that they look at themselves as no one, no identity—that they are not happy, that they are already content with what they have or what they do, that they think that they’re okay when they are really not. And these are the reasons why they put their attentions on these things—computer, cellphone, iPod, and other gadgets that they think can fill up their brokenness and loneliness in life. You know, it is really hard to look a friend that you can trust about your secrets and brokenness. Also, it is not that easy to find an opportunity to talk with your parents maybe because they are just too busy about their jobs. This letter can help you realize that you are not alone.

Many youths today are directly hurting or abusing themselves in able to express the thing that is inside of them. They cut, bite, or burn their own body, I hope you will not do those things. Don’t ever do it unless you want your life to be ruined. If you do those things, you are already testifying that you feel nothing or no one. We have our own purposes to do.

Remember, there will always be some circumstances that you will feel inferior, lonely or broken. Well, you still need to force yourself to be happy in order to lessen your sadness. Express yourself in as good manner and understand the situation of your parents.

Bare in mind, you are not the only person in the world who’s experiencing those things, ” Marami tayo.”

PROBLEMS—they are allowed by Jesus Christ to happen to prove our trust or faith in Him.

There was a moment in my life when I was alone in the house and I was staying inside my room. I was doing nothing, just staring at the ceiling because I was at my bed at that time, suddenly, the tears dropped down from my eyes. I was surprised. I felt that there was something inside of me that wants to explode. It was like…I just really wanted to cry.

Maybe I was crying because there were just too many things that I was thinking of. Past life, experiences, struggles, etch. Well, I’ve got no one to talk with.

Could you be my friend? Could you be that somebody that I could lean on? I’m hoping for that.

” You are too weak for it!
You don’t have the guts to pursue your dreams.
He will definitely not make it, trust me! ”

These are just some of the words that create pressure inside of me. Anytime, it could explode and as expected, it happened. I created a mess. I got mad, angry at the spur of the moment. That thing put a heavy weight on my shoulders. That pressure inside of me created anger and defeated me. I cried hard because of that. I told about this thing to a person that I trust the most.

=+=: Go on, cry. I will let you cry.
+=+: This must not happen. I shouldn’t let this to happen.
=+=: There’s nothing wrong about what you have done. Remember, we are not perfect or good enough to stop our
anger. Even the Lord got mad for once, says in the bible. But the good thing here is, at least you tried to stop
your anger.
+=+: Thank you so much. I feel better now.

It is my weakness when I get mad. There was again a moment in my life when I was inside of my room and of course, being a drama actor again. There was a voice inside my head and said,” Why don’t you try to cut your pulse? Just one time only. ‘Bakit si *** nagawa iyon’ and nothing happened to her. Go on, try it. You will not die with just one slash.” And it happened, I bought a blade at the store near our house, got back inside my room and prepared myself in cutting my pulse. I did it. As I were looking at my bleeding wrist, I felt like along with it was my problem pouring out of my body. I felt like I was really happy in doing that thing. I just don’t know why I allowed that to happen.

There were so many things that I realized because of what happened. You cannot live in a place by just being alone or isolating yourself from others. Look for a friend, the real one. How foolish am I? The friends that I was looking for were already there, waiting for me to approach them. I was just the one who’s hiding. Maybe I’m nowhere right now if I didn’t find them.

Anger is not a bad thing. Being angry is also not bad. That is a natural sensation. The bad thing here is when we do not know how to control or place our anger. The worst will surely follow and we can get our life a big mess. I just have a message for all those people who are in the same situation. Oh please! Do not be a big —— like me, do not be a big fool. Find someone to talk with about something. You know, I really get emotional when it comes about my life. Behind this happy face is another face of mine, meet SADNESS.

———————————————————————————————————————

This is not a real story.
I just created it from the experiences of my friends.
I’m happy with my life.
A close friend of mine read it and said,
” Creepy! Don’t ever do it for any reason.”
I just smiled at her.

Hey guys! First day of college is really fast approaching and I haven’t yet got any plan about it (I mean, I planned, but it didn’t pursue). It is because of that “petition” stuff (the petition where you can be able to go abroad). Asking why? Early October, I am already planning for my college. Which entrance test will I go, what are the requirements, how can I go to those colleges. I am planning for everything. I got for forms for those colleges, BSU, UP, PUP. But then, it didn’t pursue. I’ve got no money to pay for the entrance test. That “petition” stuff ruined me, gosh! All these time, they told me that the petition is until 18 only. I will not make it if I will take up a 4 year course (Mass Communication, Communication Arts, BS Education. I don’t know!). They are keep on telling me that It will be better if I will take up (first) a 2 year course (IT, maybe. ACLC, ABE or Animo! Liceo). It will be better if I will do that. Na-a-ah! I don’t think so. What I know is this, “The petition is until 21, not until 18!” Mami Liz told that to me when we had a chat. It means that I can take up a 4 year course and make it to abroad when I’m 21. But then, it’s already to late when I knew it. I already gave up my dreams. I think, “babagsak na talaga ako sa Animo, Liceo!” haha. Now, they are STILL keep on telling to take up a 2 year course (and it is so annoying). I am not so expressive about that matter that’s why I chose to write it. Come on, I have big dreams, bigger dreams to achieve. I don’t want to be ordinary; I want to be exemplary (sounding arrogant? I don’t care!). “Masyado lang siguro mataas ang mga pangarap ko.” Who cares? When you dream, make it big! Hayzt! What can I do? “Pinapa-aral lang naman ako. Kahit anong reklamo ko, wala pa rin naman akong magagawa. Wala pa akong power.” Does it matter? “Ako ang mag-aaral, eh.” Hay! I hope something good will happen. If there are miracles, I need them… NOW! Haha! Have a good day!

”Ways on How To Become an Honor Student, The Twisted Way!”

Hahaha! This is so crazy. As in, TWISTED again. I’ve graduated from high school with academic awards. I was really expecting for those awards because I worked hard for them. C’mon, it is not being “mayabang” (arrogant or boastful), I am just so proud with my achievements. I know, there are still more people who are far better than me (Well, I don’t care about that!).

High school is just a small place. I am now preparing myself to venture to a new journey. COLLEGE. Hayzt! I am going to love college because I know that it will offer me more challenging situations, hideous and mind-boggling problems. College will make you more responsible, competent and smart student (Does it still matter? Why am I talking in that manner? I don’t know!). I am here, just waiting for that time to come. FIRST DAY OF COLLEGE. At high school, I graduated with honors. At college, I will be a dean’s lister (there is nothing bad with dreaming, especially if you know that you can achieve those dreams). Haha!

Going back with my main topic. How did I become an honor student (at high school)? Well, let us start by reminiscing the past. When I was at my 1st and 2nd year of high school, I was not fond of studying. I was graduating from one level to another without having any award. Here’s the weird thing, I really don’t know on how I graduated with those levels because I know that I didn’t study well. I got failing grades, I admit it. That’s why I am wondering. Well, so much for reminiscing the past.

Here are some tips to become an honor student (The Twisted way!):

1) Be good with your teachers even if you don’t want them. Always give a very big smile. Always make a good impression about teachers to follow this tip. This one is really funny. I did it. I admit. Be good with your teachers even if you don’t want them. Be good with them even if you want to kill them, flush them in the toilet, make them a half-rotten meat or throw them into the river for being so strict about what you are doing (Isn’t it nice? Haha…It’s gross). Just be good with them. Your HIGH grades are at their hands. Sometimes, be a tupperware (Or be a plastic!). Inside the school, your attitudes dictate your grades. If you possess a character that your teacher doesn’t want, change it. Show him or her that you are changing and you will be liked. Good grades will follow. Am I so bad? I think not. It is just the reality.

2) Be a good follower of your teachers. Darling, this one is so true. To have the grades that you should have to become an honor student, you should obey your teachers. When your teacher asks you to do anything, obey him or her without any sign of hesitation. Obey your teacher with your eye twinkling like the stars and always wear a very big smile. Haha! This step is really effective. Yes, sometimes it is difficult to follow because they will always ask you something to do even if academically not related with your grades. They will always look for you because they know that you will follow them truthfully, honestly and happily. C’mon, darling. Your labor will never be in vain. At the end, you will get high grades. Sometimes, being a “katulong or alalay type” of student can help you on the way.

3) Always present yourself at any school activities. Hmm! If you want extra credits, why don’t you join those school activities, clubs and organizations? That one is so effective. Even if you don’t have the guts to be a leader or just a follower, JUST PRETEND YOU HAVE. Haha! Extra points will be given to you at the end of the school year. You will have the grades that you are not expecting. C’mon! You are not after the popularity from the students or from the teachers; you are after for your high grades. So, what are you waiting for? Stand up, get out from the couch that you are sitting and look for the nearest registration outlet.

4) Put a little creativity on your projects. This is true. Put a little, just a little creativity on your projects. Put a little color. Spend money to design your projects. This can give you more points. Why? For example, your project doesn’t have any content or a failing grade is not enough for it. Your teacher will think, “Ipasa ko na nga toh, may effort naman sa design, eh.” (I think I will pass this kid, there’s an A for the effort to design.) See! Extra credit again.

These steps are just some that I did to become an honor student at my high school life. Sometimes, it is so hard to follow these tips because you may think, “Am I really getting some credits from what I am doing?”. C’mon, if you really want to become an honor student, well then, do everything, even pretending to be good when you\re really not. It is just the matter of choice. You will benefit from it, promise!

Guys, don’t misinterpret me. I love my teachers. I expressed to them the sweetest words that my whole being could express. I respected them, I’m loyal to them, I obeyed. Now, I am giving the greatest gratitude to them. I know that I can see higher because I am standing at the shoulders of the giants that taught me to be responsible, competent and transformational member of the society.

At high school, maybe it was 70-30. Bigger percent that I showed at high school was true, the truest of me. The smaller percent was just a big pretending. These steps were really effective. You know, the best step is, “Get your butt off the bed and study your lessons!” Study, study, study. Follow these steps or not, it’s just the matter of your choice.

Think first before reacting on this note. First of all, the title of this note is, “Ways on How To Become an Honor Student, The Twisted Way!”. The Twisted Way! That is actually the style of my creative writing. In my notes, I express there the pumping irony of life (ang kabalintunan ng buhay), the unrealistic part of life that can be realistic, the impossible that can be possible. I love creating essays about the irony of life because you can get the humor by exaggerating them, so it is funny! In this note, I explained the irony of life of an ordinary student who wants to be one of the honors. In my note, I am not dwelling with just my life; I am dwelling with it generally. These steps are sometimes the strategies of most students (not actually just myself). What I am telling here is that, good character is actually the primary basis of the good grades, academic aspect is just secondary. In my note, I am just having it so exaggerated to say that you have to be a plastic to be liked by most, that is why it’s the PUMPING IRONY OF LIFE. That is my style of writing. EXPLAINING THE IRONY AND HYPERBOLE OF LIFE. The reality of life.
