sexual-purity1Why do we always act surprise when people come up and confess they are struggling for their sexual purity or they are desperately fighting for it?  Why do we always pretend like nothing is wrong?  Why do we always close our ears, even our hearts, to their pain and struggles?  Why do we always act like we don’t even care and just easily say to them that some issues are more important compared to theirs?  Something like, “Just learn to deal with it!” or “You’ll get over it!”  I mean, really, why?  Why be so conservative?  Why be so quiet?  “Ssshh!  Let’s not talk about that in public.”  “Ssshh!  Not for now, you won’t even understand.”  Why do we always ignore them when it is very obvious they are struggling to achieve purity?  SEXUAL PURITY!

I wrote in one of my post that we, humans, have this “The Art of Compromising.”  One of them is about our sexuality.

It goes like this,

”  2. SEX – “You can joke about it, but you can never have a serious talk about it.”
“What? We’re talking about sex? Bleep! Quiet. Everyone’s gonna hear you.” We, human beings have this code called,“Sexual Code of Silence.” One book says that this code states that, “it’s okay to joke about sex or even lie about it, but other than that, it’s your solemn duty (as a male) to keep silent whenever a serious discussion about sex takes place.”  Sometimes, people will evaluate a film, saying, “There’s no sex. Just some crude jokes, and that’s no big deal.” On the contrary, Ephesians 5:4 says crude joking is “out of place.” That’s the culture we must change. The reality is, we, guys are sexual beings. We are created with it. It’s a part of us. We deserve to know what’s right and true about our sexuality so we can have the greatest chance to have fantastic sexual relationships with the person we marry. Sex is a precious and enjoyable gift from God inside marriage. So, having crude jokes about sex is humiliating or dishonoring the Maker of sex. John Stott explains, “To joke about them (God’s gift including sex) is bound to degrade them; to thank God for them is the way to preserve their worth as the blessings of a loving Creator.” We shouldn’t be ignorant about this matter. We should integrate our sexuality along with the integration of our spirituality and other aspect of our lives.   ”

Sexual immorality is everywhere.  Pornography is even considered as an art form.  Fornication.  Homosexuality.  Solo sex or masturbation.  Early engagement to sex.  Wrong-timed relationship.  Early pregnancy.  Relationship driven by lust.  Sexually-transmitted diseases.  Broken lives.  Broken relationships.  Degraded morale.  Suicidal spirit.  Lost.  DEATH! (You still think I’m exaggerating? Check this out, Every Young Man’s Battle Trailer)  They are everywhere.  Destroying the lives of God’s children.  Blinding our generation that, “what we see is all we get, so we should take much of it, there’s nothing left.” – Lacey Sturm.  They’re eating up the future God has prepared for them.   These things make the m believe a lie that there’s no more hope, no salvation, no redemption.  There’s no other option but to continue what they’ve started — to continue being soaked in to sexual immorality.

Now tell me, why do we have to be quiet about this matter?  Why keep on ignoring?  Why be so conservative?  Let us start making a stand. Let us open up or eyes, our ears, and our hearts to their needs.  Let us comfort them.  I am encouraging you, guys, to open up your lives to them and start sharing the truth that, still, there is hope.  That there is a God who is so willing, so eager, so excited to help them and save them from their sinking sand.  The love they are looking from somebody else is nothing compared to the love they will get from God.  The love of God changes us.  It is forgiving.  It is exceeding.  It is abounding.

Let us start making a stand.  Let us not ignore, instead, be more sensitive and attentive to their needs.  God’s love is what they need.  We are called for this.  Advocates of Purity.  Sharer of Good News.  Spreader of God’s Love.

Let us desire to be part of somebody else’s redemption!

It doesn’t surprise me when people, especially guys, come up to me and confess they are struggling to fight for their sexual purity.  It just hurts my heart to see them face those difficult times.  The mere fact they open up to someone they are struggling to fight for their purity takes SO MUCH COURAGE.LRTos

Accountability groups or prayer partners of same sex do help to achieve sexual purity.   For a guy, this should be a male friend, perhaps someone older (also respected inside and out of the church) and someone who can encourage them (you) in the heat of the battle.  Are we that kind of persons?  We better be!

I want to quote what Fred Stoeker said in the book (which I can lend to you) “Every Young Man’s Battle.”

He said,

“This is why many young men fighting for sexual purity seek support in a men’s Bible study group or a smaller accountability group with one or two other men.  Having a safe place to discuss this tough issue often results in an honest exchange , although getting there can be awkward.  (Another drawback of being a male is that we don’t verbalize our feelings very well.)  Honest sharing must occur in these relationships.  Tough questions must be asked, and true answers given.”

That’s why I am writing this one, not just for those people who are fighting for their sexual purity, but this is mainly for those people who understand and who are ready to help and lend a hand to other people.

I wrote in one of my blogposts, “Intercession: Consistent Christianity”, the reason why we have to help and pray for those people (and even for ourselves) who are fighting for their purity.

I wrote,

“God desires for us a pure life. A life that is blameless. For we are God’s holy people. God is concerned with the pureness of our heart, minds and bodies. Ephesians 5:3 states, “But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.” Did you know that in nearly every book of the New Testament, we are commanded to avoid sexual impurity? That shows that God is really concerned with our purity. Let us never tolerate the spirit of lust inside the church. “Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.” (Revelation 2:20).

Psalm 147:3 says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Psalm 138:3 also says, “When I called, you answered me; you made me bold and stouthearted (courageous).”

Isn’t it amazing to think that God is so much excited to answer man’s prayer and to save them from their quick sand.  That we can part of God’s miraculous deeds in their lives.  That we can help them to be in God’s solid rock.

Again, let me say this.  We are called to be advocates of purity.  Let us not reject that call.  This is an encouragement to take a stand.  SEXUAL PURITY!

The Youth Summit:  Breakthrough Generation
San Juan Arena
December 27-28, 2007

Speaker: Sis. Edith Mendoza
Text: Hebrews 2:14, 2 Corinthians 3:17-18
Title: God’s Ever-Increasing Glory

“Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—”
– Hebrews 2:14

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate[a] the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
-2 Corinthians 3:17-18

To receive God’s Ever-Increasing Glory, we must desire for these things:

1) Ever-Escalating Revelation of God
– Isaiah’s Commission
– Isaiah 6:1-4

“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:

‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.’

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.”

2) Ever-Evolving Plans of God
– Our God is a progressive God
– He is the author and the finisher of our faith
– God’s ultimate plan is for generations to generations
– Genesis 3:15, Matthew 1:17
– God is seeking men and women who will stand for Him

3) Ever-emerging Likeness of God
– God is in the business of transformation
– We are called by God to be like Him, Genesis 1:26-27
– Nearness is likeness

4) Ever-Extending Blessings of God
– Deuteronomy 7:9
– Rechabites, Jeremiah 35:17-18
– Abraham, Genesis 17, Galatians 3:29
– Caleb, Joshua 14:9

5) Ever-Expanding Dominion of God
– Transmission from the Ark of the Covenant to the throne
– Jeremiah 3:16-17

6) Ever-exploding Power of God
– Romans 8:11

7) Ever-Enlarging Hunger for God
– For God gives the Spirit without limit
– John 3:34

So, this is really how it works to be a leader.  One word.  T-O-U-G-H.  One night, I was in distress and was praying to God to give me comfort and the assurance that He’s always with me.  Then He reminded  me of this song,  “Gantimpala Ko by Musikatha”. The chorus part goes on like this…

“BUONG KAGALAKAN IKAW AY AKING PAGLILINGKURAN
NAHIHIRAPAN MAN KAHIT PA NASUSUGATAN
KASANGKAPANIN MO, IKAW ANG TUNAY NA MAY-ARI
NG BUHAY NA ITO, ANUMANG DANASIN
BASTA’T IKAW JESUS, IKAW ANG GANTIMPALA KO!”

There will be really a point in your life where you just need to continue on in serving God despite all those pain, heartaches and brokenness you feel inside.

Masakit at mahirap. The point of giving up is there already, but then, parang may tali na hihila sa’yo pabalik sa paglilingkod sa Panginoon. You’ll find yourself in the presence of the Holy Spirit telling you, “Marami pang nakatingin sa’yo.  Marami pang umaasa sa’yo.  Paano sila?” Sabi nga sa Psalm 30:5b, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”  Yes, we maybe weak and poor but we have God on our side saying, “Don’t sweat on your weaknesses.  I’m with you.”

I received a text message from our Pastor and it goes on like this, “Being a servant of God is incomparable.  As you care for others, you learn how to cover your sorrows with a smile.  You learn how to stay vigorous despite all the tasks you endure.  You learn how to give hope even though yours is unclearly seen.  You learn how to give strength even at times that you are weak.  No one else will help rather than God.” They are called “Encouragers.”  They are the people who believe in you, trust in you and they know that you could pass through those life’s difficulties.  Their specialty is to boost your morale and uplift your weary bones.  I’m so glad God gave them to me.  That’s the joy of self-denial.

Nauunawaan ko na talaga ng lubusan.  Magbaon at magbaon ka lang ng Word of God sa’yong puso at kapag susubukin na ng panahonang iyong pananampalataya, you’ll also be able to test the power of His Word then you’ll know how to really apply those God-given promises and encouragements. Sabi nga sa Philippians 3:14, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Someone once said, “Leadership is the loneliest place in the ministry.”  At first, it maybe true.  But in the long run, what I realized is this, “Leadership is the best place to serve and worship God in the minisrty.”  That’s why we should have the desire to grow.  Kakaibang joy parin ang maidudulot if we suffer as  mature and bold Christians.

“Trapped”
(January 18, 2013)

I’m afraid of everything
Everything that is so true
So serene, so calm, secrets
Truest of me? It’s unreal!

Thoughts are floating in the air
Feelings are hidden deeply
Actions, they’re always controlled
Limited! Chained by motions.

You’re talking, words just fall down
Just as the air, you’re moving
You’re felt, yet nobody cares
Desperate sounds, no one hears.

Here we are, hear the unvoiced
Young people under pressure
Oh, listen! We are lighted
Yet darkness is upon us.

Darkness, gloom, chaos, free us
Our hearts, broken and shackled
Sep’rated from the real world
Lives with unclear purposes.

Pretension! Life’s a big stage
We laugh, we cry, we get mad
Battling everyone for fame
Competing for attention.

A life cycle of drama
It’s time, we need to end this
Compassion, rise up, be freed
Save the earth, rescue yourself.

Yes! We’re trapped to prepare us
For a fight, yet to unfold
We’re trapped by wrong emotions
Trapped by unsettled motives.

O, my friend! Be freed, be freed.

I’m still working on. I’m not yet so good on writing poems but I’m still working on it. You know, the old saying goes like, “Practice makes perfect.” I’m now interested on it. It’s something different. So, here is my second one. I hope it would sound a lot better and more dramatic than the first one. I love to hear your comments. Criticize it, please!

Naah!  What does it look like if I would write a poem?  How will people react?  I’m not good at writing poems.  I only write essays and short stories.  Other than those, none.  But then I have to.  Our teacher in Literary Criticism told us to submit our own poems then we’ll criticize them.  Oh boy!  What will I write?  Actually, I’ve already written one and I hope it would sound good.  I have no idea about it.  I hope it looks like a real poem, or not!  (I know, it’s amateur) Naah!  I don’t care.  At least I would submit something.  So here it goes.  I want you, guys, to be the first one to read and criticize.  Leave your comments and suggestions below.  PLEASE!  I would be needing them.

“THE SENSIBILITY”
(August 18, 2011)

Imagination
Fill with emotion
Full of action
And desperation

So classic
Stylistic
Fantastic
Magnific

Too much drama
Just count the babba
To skip reality
Sleep tightly

Sense the ironic
Situation
Life with ballistic
Perception

Imagination
Your own habitation
World defined your own
So alone…

——————

There you have it. My first poem ever. I hope it would not be the last. Does it make sense? You know, your sensibility. Does it have any message? I would love to hear your comments and suggestions. They would really help. Just leave them below. Chow.
(The idea and the background behind the poem, to follow…)

(This one is kinda’ heavy. Please take time to read.)

Today is November 23, 2012 and I am thinking of a good way to start an essay and share God’s revelation through me for every KKB (or the Kristiyanong Kabataan para sa Bayan; the youth organization of our church). I couldn’t think of the best way to start it. Maybe because, in the first place, I am scared and intimidated of what people will say if they read this one.

“I pray every moment. I meditate on the Bible everyday. God spoke to me and revealed something (Joel 2:28, ‘And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions’). I consulted the elders. I consulted the Bible. I prayed hard about it. Voila! It’s true. I received different affirmations and confirmations.”

That’s why I am scared and intimidated. What if it is really not from God? What if it is from the other side, just trying to distract me? What if people won’t listen? Well, I shouldn’t worry. God’s with me. He got my back. I mean, He got my whole being.

Holiness! That’s the word. As Joshua Harris puts it, from his book Dug Down Deep, “Holiness is not just a set of rules. It is imitating my Father (1 Peter 1:15-16). Righteousness in relationship is what pleases my Father. I’m not trying to live up to some church standard or self-imposed standard (Isaiah 29:13). I want to grow in honoring and knowing and blessing the heart of my Father (Romans 12:1).” That’s it! That is what I really want to say, Holiness in all aspect. God wants to saturate the church with His powerful anointing and He wants to penetrate inside the every heart and mind of His worshipers. But God won’t be able to do it because of the lost of holiness inside the church. As I was meditating on the Bible last October 18, 2012, God spoke to me. I read Romans 1:28-32 and verse 32 states, “Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.” It was a striking moment. The Scripture is clear. The wages of sin is death. It is just so sad to know that there are still so many Christians out there who are rejecting this message. They are actually not affected. They still tend to pretend before God.

In the last of the last days, many will clam they are Christians, but only few will live by its real meaning, “Holiness!” Let us start redeeming the time for the days are evil. What does that mean? Pretension. Hypocrites. We received Christ as our Lord and Savior, then we claim to be Christians. But that shouldn’t end there. It doesn’t mean that when we’re Christians, we are already immune of temptations and deceptions. We are still humans. We have to work out for our salvation. Philippians 2:12-13 states, “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.” We have received the gift of salvation. We have to work out for it, to take a good care of it. The days are evil, my friend. We are now in the last days where the wicked will become more wicked and ungodly, where sinful acts become legal or politically correct, where complacent or carnal Christians will totally lose their fire. But God has this promise, “The righteous will live by faith.” (Romans 1:17). Hallelujah!

So, why am I telling these stuffs to you? It is because I want to align your heart to my heart. So that our hearts shall be congruent to the heart of the Lord. These are God’s revelations. Heavy revelations! What’s the point? The point is, we must pray harder. We must cast out every plans and works of the devil. We must break every fortress and strongholds of the devil. The best way is to pray. Align our hearts with the Spirit. It is the time to take stand. We should be love-driven. That’s the purpose of this entry. Last August 21, 2012, God gave me my first task as a prayer warrior (Well, I just said that ’cause I committed myself to the WIN ministry of Warriors Intercessors Network). He revealed to me the 5 points that we should pray for as Christians so that holiness will be preserved inside the church. My main concern is the youth. That’s why I took a deep breath and I shared God’s revelation to them. The following 5 prayer items have become part of our everyday praying habit.

1. NOT EVEN A HINT OF SEXUAL IMMORALITY. RESISTING TEMPTATIONS. LUST OF THE FLESH. FORNICATION.  God desires for us a pure life.

2. PURPOSEFUL SINGLENESS IN OUR TEENAGE YEARS. DEDICATION OF OUR LIVES. This one is intended for teenagers (but that doesn’t mean you’ll lose your purity after after teen years, purity must be preserved). Again, God is concerned with the purity of our hearts. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else guard your heart, for out of it flows the wellspring of life.” This should be our key verse in our journey of giving God our hearts. Ru dela Torre puts it this ways, “One purpose of being devoted to God by being single is that it helps you discover the value of having the right priorities in life, upholding purity and rendering service to Go and other young people.” That is so clear. I want to share to you another passage from the Bible that will help us dedicate our teenage years as singles to God. “I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to holy in body and spirit…I say this for your own benefit, not to lat any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 7:32, 34-35). Heather Arnel Paulsen explains, “When singles keep their attention or energy focused on themselves and not on a love relationship with God, they miss out on many activities that would bring about deep satisfaction. Enjoying and serving the Creator should be our number one goal, and this period in our life allows for 100 percent attention on God.” That would preach.

3. BEING HOLY AND TRUE BEFORE GOD AND TO YOURSELF. The heart of worship is consistently honest. Our God says from Isaiah 29:13, “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.” We should desire to give God only our best and our truest. The best worship we can give to God is when we worship Him alone. If we really want to have a consistently honest worship to God, we shall consider what the apostle Paul stated in Romans 12:1-2, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”

4. STRONGER DISCERNMENT OF THE PLANS AND WORKS OF THE DEVIL. We need to pray harder to expose the plans and works of the devil in our lives. The truth is, demons do not want to be exposed. W need to pray for stronger discernment because a C.J. Mahaney explains, “With no defenses and no understanding, you’re an easy target for this roaring lion of a devil who wants nothing more than to ensnare and to destroy your life.” Let’s read 1 Peter 5:8-9, “Be self-controlled and alert…Resist him, standing firm in faith…” Satan desires to have an authority over our lives. He seeks to build foundation upon our past failures, unforgiveness, disappointments and weakness. He does that to gain authority over a life, then he can still vision, hope and destiny. Dethrone Satan by operating in our God-given authority. To dethrone his authority, we are to “cast down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought in captivity.” (2 Corinthians 10:5).

5. THE ANOINTING POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. We all believe in the Holy Spirit. The question is, if what we know about the Holy Spirit is true? What are the things that the Holy Spirit could do to us? What shall we do to welcome the Holy Spirit in our lives? We desire to become anointed so that the power of God be manifested in our lives. We should become channel of blessings. John 14:16 states that God will leave us a “Helper” which is the Holy Spirit. Joshua Harris explains, “When the Father planned, and the Son purchased by His death, the Holy Spirit activates or applies in our lives. It is the Holy Spirit who gives us a new spiritual heart (John 3:5-8; Romans 8:9-11). It is through the Holy Spirit that we are washed, sanctified and justified (1 Corinthians 6:11). It is the Holy Spirit who empowers us to become like Jesus (Romans 8:14; Galatians 5:16-18)”

There you go. These are the 5 points that God wants us to pray for. Just remember the word “Holiness!” Maybe some will say that I am already “Holy” in a sarcastic way. Maybe they will think that I am after the christian fame because I experience God revealed something to me. Well, whatever happens, we shouldn’t be distracted. Just keep an undivided heart and devotion to the Lord. Let us all pray to God that we shall all experience His glory. Let us pray to experience Heaven invading the earth. GLORY. God bless us all!

“Thoughts As Of The Moment” -Short notes on my life! (050712)-JoCaz Plamenco

Widen your territories. Expand your horizons.Go extreme. Mediocrity is an enemy. Unlimit your limitations. Never settle for anything average. Avoid being complacent.

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”
-2 Timothy 2:15 and 22

I hope I didn’t mess up with my words this time. I hope.

Sadyang may mga bagay lang talaga na hindi natin kayang kontrolin at baguhin and the only thing that we can do is to pray and let God do the thing.

Ako ay isang taong pag-ibig.  Isang taong masiyahin.  Ang aking misyon:  “Spread the love.  Spread laughter and positivity.” Baket?  Kase, I have God inside my heart.  That’s it.  Too much for blah-blah-blah.

The truth is, when you pray, there is actually no unanswered or forgotten prayers.  Maybe, I would just call them, “Delayed Answered Prayers.”  So, we just have to keep on praying and also keep waiting.

CHILLAX when being corrected or criticized.  STOP for a while then, THINK.  RESOLVE, that whatever it is, you’ll handle it constructively.

“A wise person stays calm when insulted.”
-Proverbs 12:16

“If you listen to correction, you grow in understanding.”
-Proverbs 15:32

Lord, CHILLAX pa ba tong ginagawa ko?  Always on the brighter side pa ang tingin ko sa buhay?  Or is it already the act of being DEDMA?  If it is, well, it’s not good because it is also the act of being MANHID.  Whahaha!  Ano raw?  Ang gulo, MEN!

It’s good to be PICKY!

I need all the positive energies in this world to keep me strong. Nah!  Not really.

Napakainit ng panahon.  Mabilis tuloy makainit ng ulo.  Ang electric fan, waepek.  Parang hairdryer lang, eh!

Three strategies for steeping higher:

1.  Do what’s hard for you.
2.  Be known for what you do (more than for what you don’t).
3.  Pursue excellence, not excuses.

“Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”
-2 Timothy 2:22

Hahaha!

Soul-winning is not enough.  Discipling is a lot better.

My Covenant With The Lord:

1.  I will give my best in everything that I do to glorify Your Holy Name (especially through dancing).

And this is a heavy thing.  Blessings to those who follow.  Curse to those who don’t. Want a bible citation?  Wait lang, hanap ako!  Haha!)

What’s wrong with being a PURITAN?  What’s wrong with keeping yourself single and pure; emotionally and physically? What’s wrong with going against the grain?  What’s wrong with going upstream?  What’s wrong with less flirting or no flirting at all?  What’s wrong with keeping your heart guarded from emotional intimacy?  What’s wrong with having no partner?  I’M ONLY 17.  Too young and not yet ready with commitment.  If she’s not the one, I would rather keep myself off of her. C’mon!  What’s wrong with our culture. Our culture opens a lot of opportunities for us to get hurt with our wrong mundset about the thing called love, but not LOVE. Got what I mean?  Wait lang, ha.  Magkakaroon din ako ng erotic kind of life.  But, for now, I am really enjoying this AGAPE LOVE?  (So, iyon.  I read this again and parang bitter-bitteran ang drama ko dito ngayon.  Whahaha!  Bitter yata ang Koya Mo?!  Haha!  Pero, hindi naman siguro.  I am just living by what the bible says, “Treat older women with respect and younger women with ALL PURITY.”  Too much for blah-blah-blah!)

AM I TOO BOLD TO SHARE THIS STUFF? OR AM I JUST A FOOL TO SHARE THIS?

Whahaha!)

Being a good boy or a good girl is not enough—avoiding troubles, wild parties, wanting a tattoo, watch R-rated movies, or going out on a date. Praised for being such a good boy or a good girl, isn’t that enough? Is the Christian life all about avoiding “bad stuff” or is it about doing “good hard stuff” for God? We’re not just supposed to avoid sinning; we’re supposed to pursue righteousness in a way that others will want to imitate. Be known for what you do, more than for what you don’t.

We should realize that God’s standard is not for us to be the godliest person in a youth group filled with halfhearted Christians, but to “be holy” because He is holy (1 Peter 6:16). God’s standard is not for us to be our teacher’s helper, but to be a “servant of all” (Mark 9:35). God set His standard this high so that we won’t make the mistake of aiming low. He made them unreachable so that we would never have an excuse to stop growing.
